Mri is an imaging technique using magnetic energy. It is also name as NMR .the technique was developed by Felix Bloch and Purcell in 1952. in this method the body part is to be examined is placed in a chamber surrounded by a magnet with high power and a radio antenna. When the device is working magnetic field created by the magnetic affects alignment and spin of beta atoms with in the living material. At the same time a second rotating magnetic field is adjusted to release radio active waves with suitable frequency .the radio waves received by the antenna are collected and amplified. The signal is then processed by the computer , finally the computer generates the cross sectional view of the body parts. Mri detects the behaviour of hydrogen atoms in water molecules. So Mri technique is used only for taking images of water rich tissues. The structures like teeth, bones are not appear in MRI.

Mri is now used to detect the lesion of multiple sclerosis on the brain and spinal cord. Mri is very helpful for finding injuries in joints. The defect in disc alignment in spinal cord can also visible by mri. The technique can used for finding cancerous tumors .
