Drugs are habit forming substances. They react with the nervous system of the body and affecting the individual mentally and physically. These drugs are used as mood alters .they are also known as mood altering drugs. Psychedelic drugs give a state of relaxation and pleasure. Drugs are manly classified as four types they are sedatives, tranquilizers, opiate narcotics, stimulators etc. sedative and tranquilizers give a switching off feelings on the brain . in higher doses drugs induce sleep and in low doses may produce feeling of calmness. Barbiturates are come under this category. Opiate narcotic are usually used as pain killers , which consists of morphine , codeine, heroin, methadone etc . opiate narcotics reduce anxiety and tension , etc.

Morphine

It is one most effective and principal alkaloid having 10 % of opium by weight . it induce sleep the alkoloid also known as morphieus, the god of dreams. Morphine is an analgesic and sedative . it is also used as pain killers.

Lsd

Lsd is a best known hallucinogen . it is synthesized from lysergic acid . lysergic acid taken from a fungus claviceps pupurea. The drug was first synthesized by albert hoffman a german chemists. The pure lsd is a white odurless , cristlline powder which have a bitter taste.

Heroin

It is the most addictive drug. It can be prepared from morphine. It is either injected or smoked .it gives a pleasant excitement. This last for 8 hours.

Cannabis

Cannabis sativa is also known as Indian hemp plant. This is a plant with high medicinal value. The drugs prepared from this plant is used in ayurveda medicine. Various drugs can be prepared from cannabis plant , these are bhang, ganja, charas, marijuana . bhag is prepared from the leaves , stems from the cannabis plants.
