Diabetes can be said as one of the most common diseases in the middle ages, especially in India the rate of diabetes is very high. But through proper Insulin therapies diabetes can be prevented to a great extent
Science and medicine is growing day by day. There have been drastic changes in development of medicines and their delivery methods. Same is the case for diabetes. Before, not so long, a person who is dependent on insulin means that he needs to carry around with him a syringe with him where ever he goes. A vial of insulin is also needed along with that for the injection dose. This is actually not so practical. And another problem being faced is that there must be certain methods for insulin refrigeration. But this can’t be achieved properly by the patient. But now science has come up with good and proper developments in this matter giving promising boom in the markets. Here are those improvements.
- Insulin pumps – this is a pager like device that is attached to the patient’s skin. The main components inside the pump are a battery and an insulin storage area and a small programmed integrated chip that helps the patient for controlled dosing. The insulin stored flows out through a tube which is very thin and made of plastic. The insulin is injected from the pump into the skin. The pump sizes are being reduced day by day. And there is also embedded software that continuously checks the glucose level and interacts with the pumping mechanism.
- Jet injectors – this is a new device that injects insulin into the human skin with very high pressure. The insulin is delivered directly under the skin. These types of devices are more advantageous. They do not need any needles. But there are also some disadvantages. Some patients have complained that the pressure with which the insulin is injected is painful. Cases of bruises are also reported. This device gains popularity only if this disadvantage can be removed.
