Quick tips to lose weight

By admin | December 31, 2009

There is only one way to lose weight. Eat less and expend more energy. However , dieticians and nutritionists around the world have formulated their own quirky diets for less disciplined beings who cant stop themselves reaching for that second helping and who also hate to exercise.

Here are the five of the most popular diets being followed by people all over the world.

DR ATKIN’S PLAN: The important element of this plan is to reduce sugar and refined carbohydrates. This leads to decreased hunger and improves metabolic changes.

THE GENERAL MOTORS DIET: This is what called a ‘mono’ diet for seven days during which non cereals can be eaten. This program is designed for a target weight loss 2 kg to 4 kg per week. The effectiveness of this seven-day plan is that the food eaten burns more calories than they give to the body and not eating cereals also contributes to weight loss.

D’ADAMO’S DIET: This plan relies on blood type as a key to our genetic history, which tells us what food to eat .Peter D’Adamo says that blood type determines the way our body absorbs nutrients and dictates the diet and exercise plan accordingly. Blood group O’s, for instance shouldn’t eat mustard greens, cauliflower and cabbage because they inhibit the thyroid function by binding iodine.

HARVEY DIAMOND’S FIT FOR LIFE: Diamond says that people should not mix high protein and complex carbohydrates. They are not digested quickly and get stored by body as fat which in turn leads to weight gain.

Cholesterol Estimation

By admin | December 22, 2009

Cholesterol is synthesised by the liver and it releases to the blood. Cholesterol is an essential nutrient for the synthesis of steroid hormones and vitamin D. cholesterol is also a part of cell membrane .the normal level of cholesterol in our body is 150 -220 mg/100ml blood. The over cholesterol accumulation in the body may leads to heart diseases. The estimation of cholesterol is important for predicting heart diseases.

The method used for cholesterol estimation is Liebermann Burchard test. In this method acetic acid – acetic anhydride mixture is used to precipitate protein and to extract cholesterol from the sample of serum. It is then treated with libermann burchard reagent , a green color is produced. The intensity of color depends on the cholesterol content. The instrument used for find intensity of color is calorimeter.

Hypercholesterolemia

The disease is due to high level of cholesterol in the blood .it is due to the excessive intake of ghee , butter, eggs, and oils. The excess cholesterol may deposited in the arterial walls leading to arterioscleroids, atheroscleroids , heart disease, high blood pressure etc.

Tips to be in mind while fasting

By admin | October 2, 2009

Fasting needs to be much cared as that high amount of energy is spent eliminating poison and toxic waste materials.Therefor physical and mental rest is very important for a person who is in taking fast as because of he has to reduce fast or as because due to religious belief. If we use fruit juices ,grape juice especially or orange juices, toxic wasted gets accumulated in or blood quickly and it will result in an overload of Toxic materials which will do a much amount of harm to our body,or this can result in diarrhea or severe vomiting which may result in fainting.

You can fast according to your physical and mental capability ,if no problem persists ,you can continue your fasting but once you feel something bad its better to quit from your fast and intake cooked vegetables with essential roughage like spinach ,beets and other leafy vegetables so that your body may regain the momentum. If you are fat fasting may not be a harmful task for you,its mainly because of two reasons,One is because of the excess fat content in your body which let you to survive for a larger time, and the second one is because of the mental thought that you need to get rid of this weight and this interior thought will let your mind to continue fasting.Highly sick person may survive without food for long period,he might have no apetite he might not have problems while looking from outside he may need to wait till the apetite or should have a good consultant immediately.

Change in diet to reduce your body fat contents

By admin | September 23, 2009

Losing fat takes only a bit of nutritional nous to change the
fundamental structure of your of your diet. You will automatically
bring your fat intake down to less than 30percent of your diet if you
stick to a few simple ruler-and also not allow yourself to succumb to
the temptation to snack on fast foods and cream cakes. It is best to
change just one element of your diet at a time.Perhaps, your first step
is to which to using low-fat diary foods. You may say ‘ugh’ to skimmed
milk because it tastes less rich. But if you give yourself a few
weeks, your taste buds will learn to like it.After you have adjusted to
the first change, then make another change. This approach is easier than
trying to go cold turkey and change everything overnight.
Avoid fried foods and eat smaller portions of lean
meat, substituting with chicken and fish.Trim off any visible fat such
as the white fatty layer of fat on the lamb chops, the oil in the salad
dressing ,the butter soaking into the hot toast. You have to avoid the
not-so-obvious fat like the skin of the roasted chicken, corn
flakes, the biscuit you eat with coffee.Pass up processed foods, ice
cream, chocolate, pastry and cakes and try to include
cereals,fruit,vegetables,whole grains.For nutrients-packed foods that
are high in fat such as nuts and cheese, dont eliminate them, just
consume them in moderation. If you wish to have snacks ,go ahead, just
make sure that you take complex carbonhydrates, not refined
carbohydrates or fat.

A quick tip to Reduce Fat

By admin |

A calorie is only a measure of the energy producing potential of a
type of food.If you expend less energy than is contained by the food
you consume, the food will not be metabolised and the body will turn it
into fat.Any calorie not burned up is going to be stored as fat no
matter what their food source is-protein ,carbohydrate or fat.
If your body is using more calories than you are taking in,your
body will have to burn some of the stored fat is equal to 3,500
calories .To lose one pound ,the difference between the calories you
consume and the calories you expend over a certain period of time has
to be 3,500.Hence,the basis of any weight-loss plan is to watch what
food you eat and to cut down high calorie fatty foods. So long as you
have a deficit of 3,500 calories, you will lose a pound.
Skipping meals-a common weight-loss strategy among women-is not
effective and could interfere with performance and stamina. If you
think that skipping your meals will reduce your calorie intake, you are
wrong. You will become so hungry that you end up overeating or snacking
at the next meal.Medically speaking, skipping meals is a poor strategy
as it will cause your sugar level to drop ,which can lead to feelings
of irritation and hunger, inevitably triggering a binge.Bingeing will
send your blood-sugar level up and down ,creating more cravings. In the
end you will be caught in a vicious feast-and-famine cycle.

What harm can excess fat do to you?

All fats including cholesterol-lowering polyunsaturated types can
increase weight and medical problems.Fat is a factor in some of our
biggest killer disease-cardiovascular,some cancers,adult-onset
diabetes and high blood pressure.A number of studies have suggested
that a reduction in saturated fat can raise the level of HDL
cholesterol-the ‘good’ cholesterol that apparently resists the buildup
of fatty deposits .And the substitution of polyunsaturated for
saturated fat can reduce the tendency of the blood to form tiny blood
clots that may initiate heart attacks and strokes. However ,the danger
of simply categorising saturated fat as good fat and polyunsaturated
fat as bad fat is that even polyunsaturated types of fat can carry
diet and heart risks.Hence,it is not correct to assume that it is
enough to curtail cholesterol-rich saturated fats, despite the fact
that saturated fat and cholesterol do contribute to increased risk for
heart disease. The play-it-safe advice is to cut down on all
fats-animal and vegetable, saturated and polyunsaturated or simply keep
your fat intake equally balanced.According to recent studies, reducing
fat intake will decrease blood pressure -regardless of tge type of
fat.
Not all calories are equal.Fat can make you gain weight faster than
either protiens and carbonhydrates. At 9calories per gram fats are the
back on fats is essential to any weight-loss program. One theory to
explain this fact is to burn about as many protien and carbohydrate
calories as you consume-not so with fat.Your body expends onjy 6 cal
to turn two hundred cal of food fat into body fat.

Cholestrol Free food-Is that true?

By admin |

cholestrol free

As more people endeavour to become consummate health food
consumers, food manufacturers are cashing in by touting their products
as ‘healthier’ than those of their competitors.More often than
not,’health’ foods are not what they claim to be.Most people have the
misconception that ‘health’ foods are nonfattening. In fact ,some are
real fat traps. If you want to lose fats effictively,it is necessary to
learn to decipher the labels .Always check the fat content listed on
food label and buy whatever has the lowest calorie. Here is a rundown
on the common terms of health food.Though all the highly ambiguous and
confusing terms arent easy to decode, the ultimate responsibility still
lies with the consumer. Dont be fooled by the term ‘cholesterol-free’
.Most people interpret it as healthy and safe to eat in unlimited
quantities. However, since cholestrol comes only from animal
products, this claim can still be used on vegetable products high in
saturated fats.Such products may be cholesterol -free,but they can
contribute to increased blood cholesterol levels.
Another label to watch out is ‘vegetable fat’.This term usually
refers to palm or coconut oils which are the exceptions to the general
vegetable-oil-is-better-than-animal-fat rule.These oils are used
widely in processed foods which have a high percentage of saturated
fats.Another label,’vegetarian’ may indicate that the food is meatless
but if it is deep-fried,baked in pastry, glistening with oil, then it is
certainly not fat-free.

Use less saturated oils for your good health

By admin |

Faty oils

If one cant reduce the use of fat, reduce fat by using less saturated oils, which has less fatty content, that causes damages to your health.
Saturated fats are found not only in animal products and dairy
products but also in some plant products. The less saturated fat you
eat ,the better. Our bodies don’t need it and it is the fat which
contributes to raised levels of blood cholesterol ,which in turn
increase the risk of heart diseases.

Polyunsaturated fats are primarly found in vegetable oils such as
safflower, sunflower, soybean, sesame seed and cotton seed. Some studies
indicate that polyunsaturated fats can lower blood cholestrol, reducing
the risk of heart diseases. But repeated reheating of polyunsaturated
oil at high temperature until it darkens in colour turns it into
saturated fat that is better avoided .For this reason avoid deep
frying food containing polyunsaturated fat.A special type of
polyunsaturated fatty acids-the Omega-3 found in fatty fish such as
salmon, sardine and mackerel has been found to be effective in reducing
high blood pressure heart disease risk. This explains why Eskimos whose
diet depend largely on fish rarely die of heart failure.
Monounsaturated fats are found in oils such as olive ,peanut
oil, peanut butter rapeseed and foods such as
almonds,cashews,avocados.Latest research confirms that replacing
saturated fats with mono unsaturated fats may decrease the level of
blood cholestrol.Most mass-produced margarine ,salad oil,mayonnaise
and snack foods are hydrogenated for a longer shelf life.
