Father’s diet and its effect on child

There is an astonishing link between father’s weight/diet and chances of diabetics in his children. It’s found that paternal exposure to high-fat diet increases the chances in kids to have metabolic diseases.

To prove this relation a test was conducted on rats. Male rats were fed with high fat diet so as to increase its obesity and also to reduce their tolerance to glucose. Then these rats were made to mate with normal weighted female rats .It was found that the offspring so obtained was found to be scrutinized. So these researches highlighted the non genetic intergenerational transmission of metabolic impacts of high fat diet from paternal to his kid.

Studies conducted so far have stated the relationship between mother’s diet and children .It’s known that mothers who are overweighed can have chubby babies. So mother’s weight during pregnancy plays a vital role in making up the nature of disease in her children. This is because of the involvement of the intrauterine environment. Since now it was considered that fathers diet and weight has no role to play in his child’s nature. But recent studies and investigation showed that father is responsible for the epigenetic changes taking place in his child. This is due to impact of sperm, which is formed due to high fat food consumption.

A recent investigation have showed that for a baby, whose father is in the age of 40 and above have a great chance of developing autism. Autism is a chronic developmental disorder usually seen in babies who are at the age of 18 to 30 months. This may be because of mutations or sometimes because of other genetic alterations. The aforesaid statement gives solidarity to the fact that paternal age is responsible for autism spectrum disorder. A recent study published by Archives of general psychiatry showed that, for a baby whose father is in the age of 40 and above have 5.75 times the risk of having autism when compared with babies whose father is below 30 years of age.

Glucose meter for diabetes

Diabetes has become one popular disease. About 60 percent of the Indian population has been reported to be suffering from this disease. When a person is diagnosed with disease for the first time, they are very scared and worried. This happens normally. But there is nothing to worry about. Only thing to be noted is that this disease can be very deadly if we don’t take care and get proper treatment at the appropriate time. We must also be aware of the dos and don’ts that are required for diabetes. So let’s now go through some tips that we should note when we come across this disease. Go purchase a glucose meter for regular check up even at your home. Please note that there are many ways getting a diabetes meter free of cost.

There are many offers available in the market.  Since this disease is going to be part of your life from now onwards we must take care of the medical expenses. So be aware of the offers and act accordingly. After you bring a glucose meter, to check your blood glucose level we must insert a strip into the meter. Then a small drop of blood from your body is required.  Usually we take it from the finger tips. The blood is put onto the strip and the strip is inserted into the device. The glucose meter then reads the measurement. We can store this result in the same device or we can transfer it to our personal computer. This storage of readings is important so that your doctor can analyze it later and provide necessary changes in your treatment. The accuracy of a diabetes meter is very important. If the meter reads wrong then you may have to undergo a wrong treatment. Share experiences with other diabetes patients and get their advice too.Diabetes treatment and prevention is not that difficult as you think.

Types of insulin therapy for Diabetes

Diabetes can be said as one of the most common diseases in the middle ages, especially in India the rate of diabetes is very high. But through proper Insulin therapies diabetes can be prevented to a great extent

Science and medicine is growing day by day. There have been drastic changes in development of medicines and their delivery methods. Same is the case for diabetes. Before, not so long, a person who is dependent on insulin means that he needs to carry around with him a syringe with him where ever he goes. A vial of insulin is also needed along with that for the injection dose. This is actually not so practical. And another problem being faced is that there must be certain methods for insulin refrigeration. But this can’t be achieved properly by the patient. But now science has come up with good and proper developments in this matter giving promising boom in the markets. Here are those improvements.

  • Insulin pumps – this is a pager like device that is attached to the patient’s skin.  The main components inside the pump are a battery and an insulin storage area and a small programmed integrated chip that helps the patient for controlled dosing. The insulin stored flows out through a tube which is very thin and made of plastic. The insulin is injected from the pump into the skin. The pump sizes are being reduced day by day. And there is also embedded software that continuously checks the glucose level and interacts with the pumping mechanism.
  • Jet injectors – this is a new device that injects insulin into the human skin with very high pressure. The insulin is delivered directly under the skin. These types of devices are more advantageous. They do not need any needles. But there are also some disadvantages. Some patients have complained that the pressure with which the insulin is injected is painful. Cases of bruises are also reported. This device gains popularity only if this disadvantage can be removed.

Link between Diabetes and Depression

After 25 years of research and analysis, a team of American scientists and psychiatrists has finally concluded that diabetic patients are twice as likely as non-diabetics to suffer from depression. Diabetes is disease leading to metabolic complications, which is characterized by raised blood sugar levels. The primary cause of this disorder is the inability of human body to burn or breakdown sugar to produce energy due to lack of insulin, vitamins or minerals. Because sugar cannot be burnt to give energy the body keeps demanding for more food consumption of which further increases the level of blood sugar and hence this forms a vicious cycle. Hence a diabetic patient feels persistent hunger. This condition of excessive thirst, urination and hunger are called polydipsia, polyuria and polyphagia or the polys of diabetes.

Doctors have long believed and assumed that diabetes can bring on depression because of the difficulties it causes in the lives of sufferers. Emotional eating further worsens the condition. Fatigue accompanied with diabetes leads to inactivity and inactivity and overeating may lead to depression. Diabetics who are depressed should seek treatment for both maladies according to researchers. The symptoms of diabetes are sometimes superimposed with the symptoms of its complications. For instance there could be symptoms of heart, kidney, eye, brain or nerve disease, which could come alongside the symptoms of diabetes. More and more people are becoming affected by diabetes every year. There is no need to get depressed once you are diagnosed with diabetes.
