It is an infection of the intestinal tract caused due to the  adult round worm Ascaris lumbricoides.It is an endoparasite in the intestine.Ascaris lumbricoides is elongated , cylindrical and tapering at both the ends.It is a nematode showing or characterized with sexual dimorphism. The mouth is surrounded by three lips. The outlet of the alimentary canal is placed ventrally  and is placed near the posterior end.The male worm is smaller in size than the female and has a curved tail.The cloaca of the male worm has two equal chitinous spicules projections.The female worms are larger than the malles and they possess separate genital openings.The females hve straight tails. The male has no separate genetial openings but  in males the outlet of the alimentary canal serves as the genital opening.The fertilized eggs are laid by the female worms inside the intestine of the host . the eggs are passed out in the with the faeces.one female ascaris may lay up to 27 million eggs..Along with the contaminated food the eggs are entered in to the host . the eggs are hatched after reaching the intestine  of the new host.The larva is passed out from the intestine through different organs like the liver , heart and lungs.the larva is developed in to the adult form during this journey  and they settle there.The symptoms include abdominal discomforts , colic pains , diarrhea,vomiting.The symptoms also include the blockage of the abdomen and the appendix. By proper checking the contamination of the food and drinks the infection can be prevented to a lot extent.Effective drugs are available for the proper treatment of ascariasis like piperazine, mebendazole, levamisole and pyrantel
